Reston Chorale’s Mission, Vision and Culture

Mission: To educate, enrich, and inspire our audiences in Reston and Northern Virginia, as well as our members, through the performance of choral music of the highest quality.

Vision: The Reston Chorale is known throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC as a high-caliber, inclusive, performing arts ensemble that performs quality music.

Culture: We are serious about excellence, working hard both as individuals, and as a group to improve and seek musical perfection. We are inclusive, welcoming, and friendly. We care about each other, much l ike an extended family. We are adventurous, promoting the creation of new choral music and partnering with other choral and instrumental ensembles to present a wide variety of music. We are invested in the success of the Chorale, giving our time, talent, and resources to achieve excellence and to support a full creative life for all. By doing so, we carry out Reston founder Bob Simon’s Principles of Foundation by adding to the variety of leisure opportunities in the Reston area. The Reston Chorale commits to championing policies and practices of cultural equity that empower a just, inclusive, diverse community.

Our Values: The Reston Chorale is:

  • Committed to Excellence - In our individual preparation, rehearsals, performances, communications and management.
  • Welcoming - We make new singers feel welcome and part of the group.
  • Inclusive - We are committed to including and welcoming all members regardless of race, age, culture, ability, ethnicity or nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital status, religious affiliation, or socioeconomic status.
  • Adventurous - We seek opportunities to develop creative programming, foster collaborations, and stretch to sing a variety of music, both new works (commissions and contemporary compositions) and old (masterworks and choral classics).
  • Engaged in and give back to the Community - We seek opportunities to share music with those who may not be able to attend concerts and serve the community in ways that go beyond performing (e.g., through coat and care package drives).
  • Collaborative - We forge strategic alliances with other performing arts groups to expand outreach, enrich performances, share best practices, and achieve shared goals.
  • Mentoring - We develop young singers and conductors through our scholarship and associate director programs.
